Mosquito Misting Systems – The Basics
What is a mosquito misting system?
A mosquito misting system is an installed network of small spray nozzles connected to a central control unit. The system automatically releases a fine mist of insecticide at scheduled times—typically early morning and evening when mosquitoes are most active. Tubing runs along fences, eaves, and landscaping to deliver coverage wherever mosquitoes hide and breed.
How effective are mosquito misting systems?
When professionally installed and maintained, mosquito misting systems dramatically reduce the mosquito population in and around your yard. Many of our customers report a near-complete elimination of mosquitoes. One customer who lives near a lake noted she has not been bitten by a single mosquito since installation.
What insecticide do the systems use? Is it safe?
Our misting systems use pyrethrin-based solutions. Pyrethrin is a naturally occurring compound derived from chrysanthemum flowers. It is highly effective against mosquitoes and other flying insects, yet safe for use around children and pets when applied correctly. All chemical handling is performed by our trained technicians in compliance with Texas regulations.
What insects does the misting system control besides mosquitoes?
In addition to mosquitoes, our misting systems are effective against gnats, flies, no-see-ums, and other flying insects. Many customers notice a significant reduction in all biting and nuisance insects after installation.
How does the system turn on? Can I control it manually?
The system runs on a programmable timer that activates misting cycles automatically. Many systems also include a remote control and/or smartphone integration for on-demand misting—ideal before outdoor gatherings or when you want extra coverage during peak mosquito hours.
Products and Brands
What brands of mosquito misting systems do you carry?
We are an authorized dealer for MistAway® systems and also install and service Coastal Misters® and MosquitoNix®. Each brand offers distinct advantages, and we will recommend the right fit based on your property size, environment, and preferences.
What is the difference between the MistAway® Gen III+ and the MistAway® 1.3?
The MistAway® Gen III+ is a tankless system that automatically mixes concentrated insecticide with water, making it compact and easy to refill—ideal for smaller to mid-sized yards. The MistAway® 1.3 is a drum-based system that holds up to 55 gallons of pre-mixed solution, making it better suited for larger properties with higher coverage demands.
What warranty do your systems come with?
All MistAway® systems include a standard 1-year manufacturer’s warranty. In addition, Crusader Mosquito Control provides a lifetime guarantee on the pump, motor, and misting nozzles for every system we sell, install, and maintain. That is our commitment to long-term reliability.
Pricing and Contracts
Do you require a contract?
No. We never require you to sign a service contract. Unlike many mosquito control companies that lock homeowners into recurring service plans, we believe in flexibility. We build a service schedule tailored to your yard, usage, and budget—and you only pay for what you actually need.
How much does a mosquito misting system cost?
The cost of a mosquito misting system depends on several factors: the size and layout of your yard, the brand and model you choose, and the number of nozzles required for full coverage. The best way to get an accurate number is to call us for a free estimate. We are committed to competitive pricing and will match or beat any valid competitor quote.
How much does ongoing maintenance cost?
Maintenance costs vary based on system type, yard size, and how frequently your system is used. Because we do not lock you into a contract, you only pay for actual service calls and refills. We proactively reach out to schedule maintenance so you never have to worry about tracking it yourself.
Health and Safety
Why is mosquito control important in Houston?
Houston’s warm temperatures, high humidity, and abundant standing water create near-ideal conditions for mosquitoes to thrive almost year-round. Beyond being a nuisance, mosquitoes in the Greater Houston area can carry and transmit serious diseases, including West Nile Virus, Dengue Fever, and Zika Virus. Effective mosquito control protects both your comfort and your family’s health
Is the insecticide safe for children and pets?
Yes. We use pyrethrin-based solutions that are derived from natural chrysanthemum flowers. These formulas are approved for residential use and are safe for children and pets when the system is operated as designed. We recommend keeping children and pets inside briefly while a misting cycle is active and allowing the mist to settle before returning to the yard.
Will the misting system harm beneficial insects like bees?
Pyrethrin does affect many insect species, including bees. To minimize impact on pollinators, our systems are programmed to mist during dawn and dusk when bees are least active. We take care during the design phase to avoid placing nozzles near active flower beds or hives when possible.
