Zones fire sequentially, letting a single pump serve a larger nozzle count by treating one section at a time. On a property where the house is 200 feet from the barn and the pool is off to one side, zoning is what makes full coverage practical.
It also allows different schedules. The patio zone can run twice daily while the barn zone runs once, or a zone can be disabled seasonally when a pasture is unused. Higher upfront complexity, meaningfully better product economy over time on a large property.
